Why Join the Michigan Homeland Security Consortium ?

The Michigan Homeland Security Consortium (MIHSC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to driving the growth of the Homeland Security industry in the state of Michigan. MIHSC serves a targeted membership of Michigan-based developers and manufacturers of products and technologies specific to Homeland Security, as well as those companies, universities, and organizations affiliated with the industry.

The MIHSC is dedicated to serving its members and providing them with a wide range of benefits and services:

• Build the Homeland Security Industry in Michigan:  Many prospective end-users assume they need to go to out-of-state providers for high-tech security products. The MIHSC website will provide information about the products and services provided by its members.
   
• Extensive Public Relations:  The MIHSC has already been featured in over 50 newspaper articles, radio interviews, and television reports. Michigan businesses know that a wide range of security products are available from Michigan vendors.
   
• Government Liaison:  The MIHSC provides guidance to governmental units in bringing additional homeland security funding to Michigan.
   
• University Partnerships:  Oakland University, Davenport University and Cleary University have already joined the MIHSC, and other Michigan universities and colleges are sure to follow.
   
• Assist Startups & Early-Stage Companies:  The MIHSC is launching a services and capital fund to assist in the startup and/or expansion of homeland security companies based in Michigan.
   
• Networking with Members and Outside Parties:  Since the MIHSC membership is highly targeted, meetings and events are typically attended by the executives of the member organizations. Consequently, members are able to collaborate to create new partnerships, find new customers and develop new products.
   
• Successful Events: MIHSC has had exceptionally well attended and featured prominent guest speakers.
   

In short, the MIHSC is sure to benefit its corporate members by promoting their companies, helping them expand and find new customers, meet security industry leaders, share ideas and collaborate on new projects. The MIHSC leadership is constantly working to ensure that members receive excellent ROI.

Affiliate members, such as universities, are already finding the MIHSC a valuable way of working with the security industry in forecasting security trends, identifying future products, developing new security related courses, and much more.

On a personal note, I am Ted Green, President of Greenview Data and the IT Security division SpamStopsHere.com. I joined the MIHSC partly because I was immediately impressed by the quality and friendliness of the executives at the meetings. After better understanding how corporate security is a major part of Homeland Security, I immediately saw benefits in joining the MIHSC. Indeed, after discussing IT security with other members, I received valuable input for a new product which we are now developing. Finally, the MIHSC has let me meet and network with people in government, Universities and other groups that I would otherwise not have easy access to. After recognizing the benefits of the MIHSC, I then also volunteered as a board member and officer.
